April and Leo are in the throes of wedding planning, and Sarah and Beth find themselves on an unintentional double date in tonight’s Chasing Life. Though the episode is titled “Truly Madly Deeply,” the Savage Garden song by the same name that we all know and love doesn’t make an appearance. However, love songs are definitely the theme of this episode—they just don’t come wrapped in a shiny pop-duo package. Columbus, Ohio natives Nick D’ and the Believers stay true to their roots, writing rock and folk songs with a “gritty heartland feel” and catchy pop hooks. The three piece assembled when inspiration struck frontman Nick D’Andrea at a Dr. Dog concert; it’s evident the singer-songwriter has a influence over the style of Nick D’ and the Believers in “Throwing Stones”. They also cite fellow Ohioans The Black Keys as an influence, stating “sonically their big drums and guitar rock with hooky riffs and literary lyrics is similar to our sound. They’re also Ohio boys like us, with a gritty heartland feel. They have a sort of warmth and community that they create around them.”

The work of singer-songwriter Jesse Epstein is becoming a Chasing Life staple, which makes sense because his debut album “Sunlight” chronicles the joy and happiness of newlywed bliss. We wouldn’t be surprised if April walked down the aisle to one of his hopeful, romantic tracks.

The tone shifts slightly with “Cost Of Running Away” by country artist Trent Dabbs. As one half of Sugar + The Hi Lows and a songwriter who’s co-written tracks like “Girls Chase Boys” by Ingrid Michaelson, Dabbs wears a lot of hats, but the simple, stripped down country sound may be the one that he wears best. His music has been featured on shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, and co-wrote the song “Undermine” with Kacey Musgraves, which was featured on ABC’s Nashville. You can hear some of the music from Chasing Life on this Spotify playlist.
